Spring Flowers

Thankful is a verb …

Staring out my office window at the huge snowdrift that has made its home there since last October, I try to focus on being thankful. Our days on TK Ranch are very long and often flit by without us stopping to reflect on the important work we are doing. After weeks of feeding livestock in temperatures far below zero, or working for days in our freezer filling orders, sometimes we need an attitude check — or at least I do. We live in a beautiful place, whether snow covered or not, that is also home to many species at risk. Keeping this endangered ecosystem healthy and intact is extremely important if we are to ensure these species have a future. Wild prairie is still being lost to farming at an alarming rate and TK Ranch has become an island of grasslands surrounded by intensive farms.

It is easy to become discouraged, but change is in the air. Awareness of the environment and proper stewardship is growing all of the time. This is made apparent to us by the number of emails we receive thanking and encouraging us to keep going. These emails are like fresh air and sunshine after a long winter and are one of the many things we are thankful for.

Take time to appreciate family, the sunrise, the sound of the wind and the first crocus of spring. Being thankful for the little things makes a big difference in establishing an attitude of gratitude. Easter is upon us and we want to wish you and your loved ones health and prosperity. Thank you again for your wonderful support.
