Respect is a Verb

The past year has been one of the most challenging we have ever faced. Making the decision to build our own government inspected slaughter facility on TK Ranch and processing facility on land we purchased near Calgary was essential for us to achieve our animal welfare and quality goals, but we sacrificed a great deal to make this happen. To succeed we had to mortgage everything we own, oversee the planning, engineering and architectural work, hire and manage the trades during construction and deal with government and health services to ensure all stringent meat inspection criteria were met. In the midst of all of this we were still managing our ranch and continued to direct market to our loyal customers. My husband Dylan took over the building of our slaughter facility and I moved to our land near Calgary to oversee the building of our processing facility there. Neither of us have taken a break since we started these projects and we have been living apart since last March. But we achieved something very special in 2016. We can now manage every moment of an animal's life — from birth to slaughter — to ensure it is treated with respect.

On TK Ranch respect is a verb. Putting respect back into livestock production has been our goal for decades and can be measured by the actions we have taken to ensure animal welfare is central to our business. Add our commitment to a quality end product Рwhich includes a dedicated gluten, chemical and soy-free processing facility Рand you can appreciate how much we have accomplished.

Our challenges are far from over, the financial realities of operating two facilities, servicing debt, paying employees and buying feed for our livestock has been very difficult. But things are getting better every day, and we have our customers to thank for this.

Every purchase you make helps ensure our success and is a vote for the ethical treatment of livestock. Thanks for your continued support and Happy New Year!
